Current Media as Mainstream News Source
Posted By Sidney on May 7, 2009

After several quarters and in some cases years of printing in red ink, steadily declining circulation, and the steady migration of readers to free news online, I have become more and more curious about innovative upstart news sources like the Emmy award-winning independent media channel Current TV. Yet, I wonder if Current Media, Inc., Current TV’s parent organization, can really become a mainstream brand bringing their “Your World. View.” mindset to life as a major news source. For the sake of argument, if Current Media can go mainstream it would promise news for the people, about the people (and the issues they care about), and sometimes by the people. In one click you could choose to read the news from around the globe from professional journalists and/or VC² (view created content) producers. The Current Media would be major metropolitan or national news organization fueled by user-centric social media functions that allow readers to vote for the category of content they want to access from their computer or smart phone. I’m interested to hear other thoughts about this. Will this be the future of news?
