The word “Uplift” is used as a metaphor for “sustainable” social change. Uplift was borrowed from the ideology of “racial uplift” espoused by twentieth century civil rights leaders that sought new approaches to social change in their pursuit of racial equality. Similarly, today's innovators seek new approaches to social change that will uplift the human race.
