About

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead

Innovate 2 Uplift is about the key issues facing our world community and the people whose creative ideas are shaping the solutions that will play a pivotal role in our collective future.  This blog will also feature a series called “Raisin’ the Buzz.” Raisin’ the Buzz is an interview with social innovators that is patterned after James Lipton’s Inside the Actor’s Studio on the Bravo Channel where he uses research to attain a revealing look at the craft of film making and acting. This blog offers a revealing and compelling look at the people and the craft of social innovation and change-making.

  1. Sidney, thanks for introducing me to your blog and your network. I’m a firm believer that the only way the world will change is if individuals and small groups take the position that “If it is to be, it is up to me.”

Merri Dee of WGN TV gave that slogan to me in 1994 and I’ve incorporated it into my actions and messages ever since.

  2. Independent Sector has launched FutureLab: An Online Challenge for the Nonprofit Community to Chart a Vibrant 2020. FutureLab is a national conversation to identify both the challenges and possibilities that will impact the nonprofit and foundation community for years to come. This site is designed as a forum to share big ideas and identify common goals and strategies that will strengthen the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. By joining the online challenge, participants can share ideas and get feedback from peers while contributing to the collective thinking.

PARTICIPANTS DO NOT HAVE TO BE AN INDEPENDENT SECTOR MEMBER TO JOIN THE CONVERSATION. We are looking for everyone’s perspective. The ideas that come from this discussion will hopefully shape the future work of our entire community.

To help us spread the word, visit the FutureLab “Spread the Word” website though the link below to find the widgets, banners, and buttons to encourage your followers to register their opinions and make their voices heard.

Thank you for your help and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you as FutureLab produces powerful results nonprofits can implement.

"Why Uplift?"

This blog covers the issues of our world community and the people whose innovative ideas will bring about sustainable solutions for the good of all. The word “Uplift” is used as a metaphor for “sustainable” social change. Uplift was borrowed from the ideology of “racial uplift” espoused by twentieth century civil rights leaders that sought new approaches to social change in their pursuit of racial equality. Similarly, today's innovators seek new approaches to social change that will uplift the human race.
